MAYTEE MARTINEZ: Interview: 5 Questions with Entrepreneur & E! Entertainment Host Syama Reyes

Maytee: Tell us about your background?

Syama: With a Brazilian mother and Uruguayan father, I was born and grew up in the south of Brazil. I come from an entrepreneurial family were I was raised seeing and assisting them on the business. The family business ranged from hospitality to fashion production. That is when I found myself more inclined towards the communication, fashion and event production portion of the industry and actively became part of the family team taking care of those aspects of the business.

In order to gain academic experience to the corporate areas that I felt more connected to and to sustain the TV career that I was perusing, when I was 18 years old I went to Buenos Aires to do my bachelors degree in Social Communication. There I improved even more my Spanish and did other courses of Spanish Locution, TV production and Fashion Merchandising.

I came to Miami to do a Masters in Entrepreneurship. From that, besides of TV hosting I got involved in other areas of entertainment as well.

Now I do executive production and organize fashion and music/entertainment events such as the Guess by Marciano Fashion Show at Pinkroom Miami, Ester Campos Show and Summer Play Miami www.summerplaymiami.com.br. I also partner with Mr. Reed Concierge www.reedconcierge.com a Miami personalized entertainment concierge company.

Maytee: When did you get your start in the fashion industry?

Syama: I started modeling in Brazil when I was 13 years old. Until 18 years old, since I was in school, I could not dedicate full time to the career but in this period fortunately, I could learn a great deal about the industry.

With my mother we created a young Hindu inspired fashion line called Rosa Neon, and my mom opened a boutique in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Maytee: What's it like working and hosting for the entertainment channel E!?

Syama: Well, I certainly like hosting for E! Entertainment, I identify myself with this network. I was happy to be asked to host the first time and now I cover some specific events in Miami for E! Entertainment Latin America.

Maytee: Was hosting something you always wanted to do?

Syama: Yes. In my life TV hosting is something vocational. I’m positive and embrace all the good opportunities that come to my way. That’s the reason why I prepared myself.

Maytee: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Syama: I’m now focused aiming to a goal. In this path I see myself progressing day by day, prepared to take and give the most of the opportunities that may arise.
