Interview: 5 Questions with "Curves N' Waves" Boutique Manager, Stylist & Fashion Coordinator Dawn Simpson-Jones

Monday, July 11

Maytee: Tell us about your story and how you got your start in the industry?

Dawn: Oh gosh... Fashion and I go way back! I was born and raised in Paris and with my mom being a model at the time and my father a TV host/actor, I was surrounded by this industry for as long as I can remember. I focused a little more on acting through in my teens but when college time rolled around, fashion and I rekindled our relationship and the rest is history!

Maytee: What's it like working for "Curves N' Waves" boutique?

Dawn: There is NEVER a dull moment at the store and our team is small but amazing. So, I really can't complain!

This job is really great because although the store has been around for over 18 years, there is still a great amount of creative business experimentation we have yet to dabble with. I am really excited to be onboard and make some positive changes.

Maytee: What is any advice you would like to give to those who would like to follow in your footsteps?

Dawn: With all things in life, you need to take the good with the bad. This industry is tough, like many others out there. On a lighter note, if this is what you are truly passionate about, then jump both feet in! There are countless amounts of people, who just like you want a piece of this industry. The one thing that will set you apart is if you always stay true to yourself. And don't ever forget... fashion is not just a job, it's a lifestyle.

Maytee: Any fashion rules you swear by?

Dawn: Let's face it, fashion faux pas are inevitable. EXPIREMENT! It is the only way you will learn and really grow into your own style. Those being said, play with classics! You can rarely go wrong with them.

Invest in classic pieces (i.e. Men's blazer) and mix it up with "trend-of-the-moment" accessories. I SWEAR by this.

Maytee: What has been your biggest accomplishment thus far?

Dawn: I would say growing into my own. Once you really start to grasp who you are as a person, the sky is the limit for all aspects of your life, including your career.
