Interview: 5 Questions with Atlanta Based Professional MUA Mel Hunter

 

Maytee: Tell us who is Mel Hunter?

Mel: I'm just an artist who is evolving, I express myself through my hair. I am inspired by art, music, culture & I am absolutely in love with what I do and the woman I am becoming.



Maytee: What encouraged you to become a MUA?

Mel: As crazy as it may sound, my high school choir director Mr. Andre Ashley. I've always had a niche for it.. He just saw it in high school and pushed me to nurture it and consider taking it serious. He gave me the tools, inspiration, and opportunities to make this a reality for me! He was and still is my mentor, even though he has passed.



Maytee: What is some of your recent work?

Mel: I just recently got off tour as the make up artist on Lil Wayne's 2011 'I Am Still Music' Tour with Young Money's songstress Shanell @shanell_snl. It was a beautiful experience that kept me busy for two months lol I will be returning for the other half of the tour in July!!!

Maytee: Do you have any advice for my readers who are following in your footsteps?

Mel: I'll leave you guys with a few quotes that motivate me and give me hope...

“Fear is not a disease of the body, it kills the soul” -Gandhi (You have to be fearless in life my love….set your eyes on the prize and go for it! Stop being scared…because you have nothing to be afraid of.)

“It is necessary to keep in mind neither success nor failure is final” -Roger Babson (Just as easy as it was given to you, it can be taken away. Just as hard as your life may be at one point, it can all change for the better overnight.) BELIEVE! And the most important one ” WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN OR WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN'T YOU’RE RIGHT” -Henry Ford (YOU have to believe, otherwise it won't work. If you keep doubting yourself and bringinng negative things into your life…. that's exactly what you’re going to get. Like the quote says, your right either way!)
